Whether you are struggling or succeeding at Latin, vocab, or reading, Zak Schlichtmann can help you improve and build your skills. As a current high school Latin teacher at the Advanced Math and Science Academy in Marlborough, Massachusetts, he teaches Latin II, III, IV, and AP Latin. As a teacher, he mainly focuses on building students’ ability to read proficiently, employing reading strategies that help students identify patterns to increase their reading speed and comprehension. He was educated with both a traditional grammar-translation method as an undergrad, and through an active, spoken-Latin/reading method as a graduate student. He is therefore capable of helping students excel with both English and Latin reading and grammar, regardless of what method they are currently learning at school. He believes that creating an environment in which individual students can be successful does not depend upon any specific pedagogical approach, but rather on effective and responsive teaching. In his spare time, Zak likes to paint and create miniatures; read sci-fi, fantasy, and historical books; spend time with his cats and fiancée; play tabletop games; or go on day trips around New England.
