Silas Pillsbury is a graduate of St. John’s College, with a double major in philosophy and history of math and science. While at St. John’s, he tutored fellow students in math, physics, and astronomy. After graduating, he worked for a tech startup tracking space debris and satellites. He currently teaches an online programming class for high schoolers through MIT Beaver Works.

Silas has over five years of experience tutoring math and programming. He’s tutored students from many backgrounds and disciplines, including musicians, poets, and historians. He loves seeing how every student approaches learning in a different way. When tutoring, he delights in guiding students out of despair to confidence by actualizing their strengths. Using active listening and philosophy of mind, he strives to deeply understand a student’s unique mental processes. He aims to help every student to see the joy of learning, and achieve their academic goals. He’s eager to teach all kinds of students and learn from them as well!

When he’s not teaching, Silas enjoys rock climbing, playing cello, and reading as broadly as possible.
