Joan received a B.A. from the University of Rochester, where she graduated with Distinction in English. After teaching high school English for two years, she attended Suffolk University Law School and practiced law for many years. Joan then decided to return to teaching English part time while raising her two children. She taught as an adjunct professor at Middlesex Community College for two years, then at Bentley University for twenty years where she has taught writing and research, literature, and public speaking. She also taught grant writing and wrote grants for a nonprofit organization.
About 15 years ago, Joan began working with high school students on writing the college essay and on the college admissions process. She has helped students get into a wide variety of colleges, including MIT, Duke, George Washington, NYU, Tulane, Holy Cross, Connecticut College, Wake Forest, Skidmore, Syracuse, Ohio State, Rochester Institute of Technology, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Clark, Brandeis, Providence, and UMass Amherst. Joan loves meeting and working with young people and helping them tackle the job of applying to college.
Joan has extensive experience helping students who have learning differences both at the college level at Bentley and at the high school level with the admissions process.
Apart from her career, Joan is a lifelong learner who has many interests; some of them are reading, walking, cooking, traveling, visiting museums, and spending time with her two grandchildren.
