PSAT Test Prep
The PSAT is a standardized test that qualifies students for the National Merit Scholarship Program (NMSP). Many students take the test for the first time their sophomore year as a practice, and then again in the fall of their junior year to determine NMSP eligibility. Even if you plan to take the ACT for college admission, the PSAT still offers an opportunity to earn scholarship money through standardized test achievement.

Commonly Asked PSAT Questions
The PSAT, or Preliminary SAT, is a standardized test administered by the College Board. It serves as a practice test for the SAT and is also the qualifying test for the National Merit Scholarship Program (NMSP). The PSAT assesses skills in reading, writing, and math, similar to the SAT but at a slightly lower difficulty level.
Many students take the test for the first time their sophomore year as a practice, and then again in the fall of their junior year to determine NMSP eligibility.
We recommend starting your PSAT preparation at least six months before the test date to allow ample time for skill development and practice.
The PSAT is scored on a scale of 320 to 1520, with separate scores for the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing (160-760) and Math (160-760) sections. The total score is the sum of these two sections. In addition to the total score, students receive sub-scores in various skill areas that provide more detailed feedback.
A “good” PSAT score depends on your goals. For National Merit Scholarship qualification, students generally need to score in the top 1% of test-takers in their state, which usually means a score of around 1400 or higher. For general SAT preparation, a good PSAT score is one that shows you are on track to achieve your target SAT score.
