Study Material for SAT Exam
For many students, getting into a top-choice college and possibly even earning a scholarship begins with great SAT test scores. Livius Prep test prep programs provide the study material, test strategies and tutoring you need to succeed.
Livius Prep was founded in 1984 with a commitment to excellence and student success. During our 30-plus years, we have helped thousands of high school students get familiar with the SAT Subject Tests and gain a significant advantage over their peers.
How to Study for the SAT
Preparation is the key to success, and practice tests are a valuable part of any study program. Taking SAT practice tests under real conditions and having your results reviewed by a Livius Prep expert is a great way to see where to focus your tutoring.
Realistic practice tests enable you to understand what will be tested, get familiar with the structure and types of questions in each section, and learn how to best approach them. You will also be able to identify and fix your weaknesses in order to improve your score on the actual SAT.
Livius Prep has built a comprehensive and multifaceted curriculum that works in concert with the College Board’s and ACT’s official resources and practice exams so that our students are completely prepared for whatever testing challenges lay ahead.
Did You Choose the Right Test?
Catering primarily to high school juniors and seniors, both the SAT and ACT measure students’ proficiency in various areas, such as problem solving and reading comprehension, skills you will need for success in college.
The SAT was redesigned in 2016, and the content and style of the SAT and the ACT are now very similar, but there are some noticeable differences that may cause you to choose one over the other, such as:
- Time per question. The SAT allows more time per question than the ACT, so a student who struggles to move through material quickly or worries about time constraints may do better with the SAT.
- Science. The ACT contains an entire section devoted to science. While the SAT does test science-based concepts, there is no separate section. If you dislike science, you would probably prefer the SAT. If you are a science whiz, the ACT may be a better fit.
- Mathematics. The math section on the ACT has more geometry questions than the SAT. If you struggle with geometry, consider taking the SAT. Another difference is that the SAT has one no-calculator math section. If the idea of doing math without a calculator is intimidating, you may be more comfortable with the ACT.
- Reading. The ACT requires more reading, but may be a better choice if you struggle with higher-level vocabulary. Overall, the SAT features more difficult reading passages and more vocabulary questions.
