About the SAT Math Test
The Math sections on the SAT test are the third and fourth sections, following the Reading and Writing & Language sections. During the first 25-minute multiple-choice section, you will not be able to use a calculator. You will be allowed 55-minutes to complete the second multiple-choice Math section and can use a calculator.
The skills and concepts that are most prevalent in the SAT Math section are Algebra (linear equations, inequalities, functions, and graphs), advanced Math (nonlinear expressions, quadratic equations, exponential expressions, and word problems), and data interpretation from tables and graphs.
Why Good Scores Matter
Your SAT scores will be important to colleges and universities because they use them to compare you to other applicants, to assess your academic readiness for college, and to determine if you would be a good fit at their school.
Without high enough test scores, your strong GPA, challenging course load, dedication to community service, extracurricular activities, and excellent teacher recommendations may not even be reviewed by admissions officers. When the stakes are this high, the most important approach is to spend time preparing for the test in order to get the highest score possible.
