# GRE Quantitative Tutor

The GRE is meant to be challenging, and if the quantitative section has you quaking in your figurative boots, choose a Livius Prep tutor. We provide the expertly applied assistance you need to expand your potential score and secure admission into the graduate program of your choice.

Math doesn’t have to be your strong suit to do well on the quantitative section of the GRE, but if you prefer literary analysis to algebra, you’ll do well partnering with a tutor who has proven success on the exam. All of Livius Prep’s GRE tutors have postgraduate degrees as proof of this real-life experience.

Let our tutors guide you through strategies and review to raise your scores, and let’s begin with a review of a few tips that will help. Put them into practice when you take the diagnostic test we base every program on to ensure our students receive individually focused tutoring.

Word Problems – Read the problems thoroughly and ensure you comprehend the underlying questions and the concepts being tested. A few key words can change the question’s intent, so word problems can easily cause you to fumble.

Time Management – The clock is ticking. Each section of the GRE Quantitative portion includes 20 questions over 35 minutes. Plan for a maximum of 2 minutes per question; if a question requires more time, make your best-educated guess and move on to the next question.

Calculator Use – Limit the calculator to problems that require its use. Most of the questions on the GRE can be done without one, usually faster, in fact. Not only will using the calculator take up more of your time, but you can make easy mistakes relying on it.

Information Consideration – When approaching problems, take note of all numbers, phrases, and variables to ensure that you understand the purpose of the question and answer the specific question.

Consistent Strategy – As you face questions with different difficulty levels, remain consistent and strategic in your approach. A seemingly difficult question may become easy! Consider all possible strategies your Livius Prep tutor will teach you for each question.

Plug-In Answers – If the problem you face includes numbers in the answer selection, plug them in individually to quickly solve the problem.

Analyze Graphs – When facing questions based on tables or graphs, study them thoroughly before considering them.

Redraw Figures – Geometry questions often require that you find shapes within shapes. Use your scratch paper to redraw them, but label the parts.

The quantitative section of the GRE evaluates your math skills. The two sections will include the following:

• Algebra II
• Geometry
• Pre-calculus
• High school level statistics and data analysis

The difficulty of the second section will depend on the performance during the first section, making the score even more precise.

Livius Prep employs official GRE materials for all of our programs, so you will work with the exact type of problems during preparation that you will see on the day of the exam. Your program will begin by creating a baseline through a diagnostic exam, and the rest of your program will be targeted by using the data the pre-test provides.
